Steps to Do a Perfect Make-up

No matter how young or old you are, sometimes you just feel totally clueless when walking into a make-up store, where to start? Here are a few tips to make it a bit easier. It is important to go for a make-up lesson at an image consultant or make-up artist to know how to make-up according to your eye and face shape.But of course, I love switching it up and sometimes I really like an airbrushed, blemish-free face. Recently, I've been enjoying wearing a full coverage face, especially on nights out when I really want my makeup to hold up for several hours. Light and medium coverage foundations can break down a bit with sweat, etc, but when I bust out my heavy duty full coverage makeup, I know that my makeup isn't going anywhere all night.

Begin with your eye make-up. The eyes are the most important, like they say your eyes are the window to your soul. To prepare the eye lid, use a primer (no not the one you use to prime your walls).  This will make your eye shadow stay on longer and serves like a foundation for your eye lids. Start off using a light colored eye shadow to add depth to your eye lid. Depending on your eye shape, take a small rounded eye shadow brush and put eye shadow on your eye lid.  It is very important to keep the area just underneath your brow as light as possible with a matt cream eye shadow without shimmers. Go to a professional as this step can make your eyes appear bigger or smaller.

If you are satisfied with the shape you created, use a darker colored eye shadow to create more definition. Begin with natural colors like brown or charcoal brown. Use eyeliner to line your eyes. Draw it as close as possible to your lash line. Do not over do it, the trick is to create a line that looks natural. Wipe off any messed eye shadow or mascara, that’s why it is easier to begin with your eyes and then add the foundation.

Apply foundation using a foundation brush. Make sure your foundation is blended at the jaw line, take a hand mirror and tilt your face, wipe off any excess foundation with a make-up sponge. Ask a make-up shop assistant to help you find the correct color foundation. To get rid of a shiny face and to make your foundation appear more natural, apply powder with a powder brush. If you have a more mature face, do not apply too much powder as this can make you look older.

 Look young and vibrant by using a blusher on your cheekbone but not too close to your nose. Smile when applying blusher with a blusher brush and move the brush in the direction of your ear. Do not over do the blusher, use a rose colored blusher – it suits most skin tones. Get the perfect kissable lips by using a lip pencil in a natural rose color. Draw a soft line on your lip line and blend it with a lipstick in more or less the same color.

Going to ask for a day off? Try not to do it when your boss has her hair in a bun. Asking your coworker out for drinks? Do it on a day she has taken extra time to style her hair. Whether we realize it or not, women in the workplace wear our attitudes on our sleeves, or rather, our heads.

We can be strange and complex creatures at times, especially in the workplace, and men don’t always understand us or our body language. So, I have come up with a cheat sheet for dealing with your female coworkers or boss, based solely on her hair. Unless you work in a dance studio, the fashion industry, with lunch ladies, flight attendants, or women that all have short hair, this list will apply to your office.

Consider your coworker to be in at least a semi-good mood. Straight hair means your coworker probably woke up on time and was able to have her coffee this morning, but is not really trying to impress anyone. You should be able to have a normal convo with her about both work and non-work related issues. When your coworker arrives to work with straight hair but later pulls it into a taught pony, be warned. The high pony is not as bad as the bun, but it is a close second. The high pony lets you know that your coworker has some serious work to do, but she doesn’t want to look awful. A high pony gets your coworker’s hair out of her way so she can focus on her work, so just remember that she does not have time for your bullshit.

While she may not say it aloud, your coworker spent extra time on her hair because A. She has a hot date that evening, B. Wanted one of her coworkers (or boss, maybe) to notice her, or C.Just wanted to feel especially pretty that day. Unless her barrel curls end up in a ponytail or bun by the end of the day, your coworker cares a little bit more about the way she looks than how much work she actually accomplishes. The coworker with curled hair is in a great mood today, or at least she is trying to be in a good mood. She should be open to light flirting, shallow compliments, and convos pertaining to anything but work.

It's true: like children duped by the only girl in their summer camp cabin who possesses the ability to French-braid hair, aspiring Stylish Ladies are paying $35 to get their hair braided at the W hotel's braid bar (someone kill me). In anticipation of anyone who claims that this article isn't about all types of braided hair, but rather about just one specific type of braid (i.e., the long braid, performed upon long, probably straight hair): sorry, but that's bullshit. It's symptomatic of a far larger problem in fashion that this trend piece wouldn't even consider black women's natural hair.
